Patriot Act used to quell laser pointer terror

A New Jersey man has been surprising under the Patriot Act because it burdens allegedly shining a laser into the eyes of two pilots.

David Banach faces up to 25 years in prison and $ 500,000 fine for disturbing the operator of a mass transportation vehicle - a charge falling under the controversial Patriot Act - and lying to the FBI. The authorities claim that Banach, 38 fly, to shine a laser into a jet and a helicopter taken over his homeland. The jet pilots were temporarily blinded by the green laser light, according to state officials. Their Cessna Citation flying at 3,000 feet had six passengers.

At the beginning of this, the FBI had the idea that became a series of "Lasers in the Cockpit" incidents of a terrorist conspiracy to interfere with pilots. The federal police, but now, the long arm of the Patriot Act applied - invented after the attacks of 11 September - over alleged crimes is Banach.

Said "We are not saying that's a big terrorist attack," U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie told the New York Post. "We have to send a clear message to the public -. No matter what the intention was"

Banach said that he was easy to play with his daughter, who bought from new laser for his job as a fiber optic cable tester. His lawyer, Gina Mendola Longarzo said Banach with the state as a "sacrificial lamb".

"I do not think that the Patriot Act was enacted to cover this type of unwanted behavior," she told the Post.

Act on the possible misuse of the Patriot, there are other problems here. After reading our laser story earlier this week interviewed a number of Register readers the chance to shine on the floor in someone capable of making a laser into the eye of a pilot. Banach should have hit the beam three times with his laser, director of student pilots to hit at least once. That's quite an amazing performance.

Maybe the FBI should really be looking for Cyclops. The X-Men are in New York after all headquartered.

Elsewhere, gang members are also charged under the Patriot Act. Are not many laws already been convicted thugs and murderers are there?
