Ford Fiesta Sport Special Edition Hits Europe, Should it Come Here?

This year marks the 35th Anniversary of the Ford Fiesta nameplate in Europe. To celebrate, the Blue Oval a plaque compact version of the gasoline engine was released, called the Fiesta Sport Special Edition.

The Fiesta Sport offers the choice between gasoline and diesel generators. The former is a 1.6-liter inline-four with 132 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque, coupled with a close-ratio manual transmission, it drives reportedly Fiesta sport from rest to 62 mph in 8.7 seconds, almost as soon as the Europe-exclusive Fiesta S1600. The 1.6-liter Duratorq diesel engine delivers 94 hp and a claimed 57 mpg.

Like the S1600 model, the Fiesta gets Special Edition also sports a more aggressive body kit, and chrome trim for the grille, headlight surrounds, fog lamp housings and exhaust tips. The three-door hatchback comes with special wheels, Black Panther, measuring 16 inches for diesel models and 17 inches for gasoline-fueled versions. Black leather sport seats, satin-black instrument panel trim, a leather shift knob, metal pedals and unique sill plates dress up the interior. We think the mean-matt black paint and dark treatment inside look pretty.

The updated Focus is intended for sale only in Europe. While Ford has already promised higher-performance variants of Fiesta for the U.S. market, have not materialized. So tell us what you think - you want to see a warmed-up hatchback like the Sports Special Edition in the U.S. dealers? Or are you willing to wait for the long-promised 180-hp Fiesta ST? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
